Position in Speech, Institute for Writing and Rhetoric, Dartmouth College

Dartmouth College seeks applications for a tenure-track appointment (rank dependent on qualifications and experience) beginning fall 2015. The position includes teaching four courses (Dartmouth is on the quarter system), two in Public Speaking; maintaining a fully-developed research agenda; and contributing to the Institute’s faculty development efforts. The successful candidate will join a dynamic leadership team for our forward-thinking writing and speech programs.

We are especially interested in candidates with specialties on the leading edge of communication/rhetoric scholarship, including innovative approaches to studying and teaching in one or more of the following areas: persuasion/social influence; public speaking; social movements.

Qualifications:

A Phd in Communication and minimum five years university teaching.

The ideal candidate will have public speaking as a primary teaching interest/focus, with evidence of an academic approach to the study, practice, and teaching of public speaking; strong evidence of teaching excellence; a robust research program with experience and interest in rhetorical and social scientific approaches to speech using qualitative, quantitative, and rhetorical methods; evidence of experience in and a dynamic approach to offering faculty development.

Administrative experience is a plus, including work with curriculum development, planning, and assessment.
