The interview is a fun and integral part of research in many disciplines. The writer must be acutely aware of word choice; point of view; clarity, concision, and logical flow. The interview process involves exploring issues and ideas that fascinate us; developing theses, designing questions, choreographing question sequence, taking good fieldnotes, knowing how to use quotes, recognizing our bias and point of view, defining and describing context, and knowing how to identify good, reliable sources. We explore interviewing each other; interviewing decision-makers and people in power; interviewing people affected by those decisions; victims and perpetrators; elites and the disenfranchised. Classes are discussion-based. Students present work, analyze their writing, and help each other to design and conduct fascinating, truth-seeking interviews.
