While the participation grade is a common feature of most of our syllabi, we often have different methods of describing and grading it, as well as different expectations of what it achieves. In this session, join Sarah Smith and Mark Koch to discuss how and why wegrade student participation, how students might understand our grading, how it might be tied to student engagement, and what the scholarship reveals about the participation grade.  We will also consider how we might devise methods for assessing engagement for all students and how we might make that assessment more transparent to our students.

Lunch will be served.
